Meet Dr. Sutherland

Dr. Greg Sutherland established his orthodontic practice in downtown Puyallup in July 1978. He received his doctorate degree in dentistry from the University of Washington's Dental School and his master's degree in oral biology and certificate of specialty in orthodontics at Loyola University in Chicago.

While completing his undergraduate work at Carroll College in Montana, Dr. Sutherland chose the field of orthodontics because he saw incredible potential to help people gain confidence, self-esteem and improve their oral health through orthodontia. Over twenty-six years later, Dr. Sutherland still specializes in tailoring the treatment given to each patient and works for that perfect smile, the goal of each personalized treatment plan.

Dr. Sutherland and his wife, Raelene, have always played an active roll in the education of their five children. The eldest two daughters, college graduates, now have families of their own, the two middle children are currently attending SPU, and the youngest continues her education at Cascade Christian Senior High in Puyallup. Dr. Sutherland has served on the Cascade Christian School Board for over twelve years, four of which he served as chairman. Raelene heads up Parents for Cascade at the high school, organizing school events and rallying parent support for educational opportunities.

Dr. Sutherland has for the past several years served as the Puyallup Men's Bible Study Fellowship substitute teaching leader. Recently he accepted a new role as teaching leader for the Kent area's BSF. Raelene, who for years has participated in the Puyallup area BSF ministry, is now substitute teaching leader of the Wednesday morning Women's BSF class. Frequently, the Sutherland home is host to local church youth groups, Young Life and Bible Study gatherings.

Dr. Sutherland annually promotes dental health to school children. He sponsors tours for elementary school-aged children from neighboring communities during National Dental Health Month. He has traveled to Guatemala and Russia helping promote dental health awareness. His deepest commitments are to serving God, his family and his patients.

Dr. Sutherland enjoys playing golf, tennis, reading and working out. He relishes in the latest technical gadgets, such as color screen palm pilots, digital equipment and computer accessories. He and his wife Raelene enjoy vacationing in Palm Desert and doting on their grandchildren. Dr. Sutherland's favorite holiday pastime is gathering the entire family together, grandchildren included, hiking out in the woods and cutting down a fifteen foot Christmas tree.
