Smiles by Sutherland has been creating beautiful smiles since July 1978. Dr. Greg Sutherland graduated from the University of Washington Dental School in 1976 with a Doctorate degree in Dentistry. The next two years were spent in the windy city of Chicago where he received his master's degree (M.S.) in Oral Biology and Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics at Loyola University.
While completing his undergraduate work at Carroll College in Montana, Dr. Sutherland chose the field of orthodontics because he saw incredible potential to help people gain confidence, self-esteem and improved oral health through orthodontia. Twenty-nine plus years later, Dr. Sutherland still specializes in tailoring the treatment given to each of his patients. He and his staff work together well and they enjoy seeing the results of what excellent orthodontic treatment can do for their patients.
Dr. Sutherland and his wife, Raelene, have always played an active role in the education of their five children. Four are now married and have graduated from college. The youngest will finish college in two years. Dr. Sutherland values education for his children and others. He offers scholarships to help his patients attend college as well. Dr. Sutherland was involved in Cascade Christian Schools from their beginning. He helped raise funds for the new high school and served on the Cascade Christian School Board from its inception until 2006.
Dr. Sutherland has been the substitute Teaching Leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for 20 years; first in Tacoma and later in Puyallup. He now is the BSF Teaching Leader in the Kent class. Raelene serves as Substitute Teaching Leader in the Puyallup Women’s Day Class. The Sutherland’s frequently open their home to local church youth groups like Young Life and Bible Study gatherings.
Dental health in our community is important to Dr. Sutherland. Smiles by Sutherland gives much to take care of the orthodontic needs of others. Staff members also provide dental/orthodontic education to schools during national Dental Health Month. Dr. Sutherland has traveled to Mexico, Guatemala and Russia promoting good news about dental health and the great news about Jesus. His deepest commitments are to serve God, his family and the needs of his patients.
Dr. Sutherland enjoys his children and grandchildren. He and his wife vacation in Palm Desert where golf and reading are relaxing pastimes. He likes gadgets and keeps his office loaded with the newest and the best technology.
